Yonder Mountain String Band and Railroad Earth traded sit ins over the weekend during their co-headlining tour stops in Cincinnati, Columbus and Grand Rapids.

During Friday night’s show at Moonlite Gardens in Cincinnati, Yonder Mountain String Band guitarist Adam Aijala and guest mandolinist Jake Joliff took the stage with Railroad Earth for “Powderfinger” toward the end of their set before banjoist Dave Johnston joined the fray for “Long Way to Go.” Railroad Earth then closed out their show by inviting all three of the Yonder guys and Joliff to help them with “Bringin’ My Baby Back Home.” Railroad Earth fiddler Tim Carbone also sat in with Yonder Mountain String Band for the “Cuckoo’s Nest” > “Remind Me” > “Boatman” that closed out their set.

The following night, at the LC Communities Pavilion in Columbus, Yonder Mountain String Band were joined by special guests Joliff and fiddler Allie Kral for the duration of their show. The group also got some help from Railroad Earth, who took the stage with them for encore renditions of David Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust” and Earl Scruggs’ “Lonesome Road Blues.” Yonder Mountain String Band were also joined by Joliff and Kral at the Frederik Meijer Garden in Grand Rapids, MI on Sunday night for a gig that featured a stellar cover of Pink Floyd’s “Dogs,” as well as a “Red Bird” encore with all of Railroad Earth.

Yonder Mountain String Band and Railroad Earth will continue their co-headlining tour tomorrow night with a show at Stage AE in Pittsburgh.
