Phish kicked off their three-night run at Chicago’s Northerly Island last night with a solid show that featured some serious second set jams. The night began with “555,” marking the first time that a Fuego track has opened one of the band’s shows. “Kill Devil Falls” and “Bouncing Around The Room” were followed by a well-executed “Reba” before the band moved on to “Waiting All Night,” a Fuego track that appeared at the band’s previous show in Clarkston, MI (the second time that the band has played a song from the new album at consecutive shows). A quick “Birds of a Feather” came next before fans were treated to some first set segues as “Halfway to the Moon” moved into “Sparkle” before transitioning into “Sample In a Jar.” The 2.0 track “A Song I Heard The Ocean Sing” made its third appearance of the tour, as “Stash” and the Page McConnell solo-vehicle “Squirming Coil” closed out the set.

The second set got started with the night’s biggest jam, a 17 minute “Golden Age” that veered into space territory before turning into the first “The Mango Song” of 2014. “Sand” then kicked off a lengthy run of tunes as the song segued into “Piper,” which then transitioned into “Halley’s Comet,” albeit without the song’s opening vocal segment. The song was followed by the most jammed out “Wombat” to date, as the Fuego track expanded to nearly 12 minutes before moving into a compact “Chalk Dust Torture.” A standard “Slave to the Traffic Light” then wrapped up the set before the band returned to end the show with a “Julius” encore.

Phish will return to Northerly Island tonight for the second show of their run at the Chicago venue.
