Phish kept up their bust out streak last night with a cover-free show and six tour debuts at the nTelos Pavilion in Portsmouth, VA. “Bathtub Gin” opened the night for the first time this tour before the band went into the new tracks “Devotion to a Dream” and “Yarmouth Road,” as well as the first “Guelah Papyrus” of the year. The night’s biggest surprise came early as a particularly jammy “It’s Ice” and the somewhat rare “Poor Heart” were followed by the first Mountains in the Mist” in 141 shows (LTP December 27, 2010). 2014’s first “Meat” then came next (a few fans held up signs requesting the song), and the set wrapped up with a “Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan” that segued into a final “David Bowie.”

Phish returned in style as they opened the second set with yet another big “Fuego” that featured some solid improvisation over the course of 19 minutes. “Gotta Jibboo” was followed by a top-notch, funk-filled “Meatstick” before the band went into a soaring “Piper.” Fans were treated to the night’s second bust out as “Billy Breathes” made its first appearance in 95 shows, marking the fourth time the song has been played in the 3.0 era. The tour debut of “Seven Below” came next as the second set wrapped up with “Waste,” “Backwards Down the Number Line” and a rocking “First Tube.” Phish then saved their last, and perhaps best, surprise for the encore when they closed out the night with fan favorite “The Lizards.”

Phish will return to the stage tomorrow night when they make their debut at the Amphitheater at the Wharf in Orange Beach, AL.
