Ilya Stemkovsky Joins Umphrey’s in Asbury Park

Umphrey’s McGee wrapped up a run of shows this week with a slot at The Stone Pony Summerstage in Asbury Park, NJ. Much like they did at their last visit to the venue in 2012 when G. Love joined the group for “Women Wine and Song,” Umphrey’s welcomed out drummer Ilya Stemkovsky for a “Drums” segment that emanated out of a cover of “Rock the Casbah.” Stemkovsky joined Jake Cinninger and Andy Farag on the percussion kit while the rest of the band jammed out the song.

Stemkovsky, who came up with the now defunct OM Trio and also played with Brothers Past, recently sat in with Umphrey’s in 2011 for a cover of Rage Against the Machine’s “Bombtrack” which featured the drummer on vocals.

Next up for Umphrey’s is a show on August 14 at the Iroquois Amphitheater in Louisville, KY.

Here’s a look at the setlist as it appears in our Box Scores section:

Wow that was quite amazing last night to be in the land of Springstein with such musical history and todays most influential band comes and busts out Waterfalls out of left field. Phish is an awful band in my opinion, but people around me were all saying this was a bigger bustout than when Phish came out with Fluffhead at Hampton. I won’t confirm or deny that because I hate that tune, but it’s a fact that UM is the band people look to for good music and Phish is struggling to book tours. Here is an amazing youtube of Brandon pouring his heart out to Classic Rock favorite Waterfalls last time played ages ago. Thanks UM. Pants off!!
