Yesterday on their Facebook page, Genesis posted that fans should “stay tuned for some exciting Genesis news” with an accompanying picture of a new logo. Most fans pointed to past interviews with Phil Collins and the fact that the classic lineup recently reunited for a documentary, leading many to assume a reunion was on the horizon. The news came down today that Genesis will instead release an archival box set, drawing the ire of their fans.

Spanning 42 years, R-Kive is a 3-CD, 37-track set that documents the band’s history and was compiled by the band themselves. Also, for the first time ever, each band member chose three tracks from their respective solo careers including Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett and Mike Rutherford/Mike + The Mechanics.

Pre-orders are currently ongoing. R-Kive is due out September 22.
