The New York State Parole Board has denied Mark David Chapman parole for the eighth time, noting that his release would be “incompatible with the welfare of society.” Chapman, who murdered John Lennon outside of the Beatle’s Manhattan apartment on December 8, 1980, was sentenced to 20 years to life in 1981. His next chance at parole will be 2016.

Responding the parole request, the three-member panel wrote, “You stalked and waited for your victim and thereafter shot him multiple times causing his death… The victim had displayed kindness to you earlier in the day and your actions have devastated a family.”
