Burning Man Closed Tonight Due to Rain

Burning Man was set to kick off today in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert but is now temporarily closed due to extensive rainfall in the area.

Per a post on the event’s Facebook page, Burning Man is closed through tonight and likely into tomorrow morning. Law enforcement is turning back vehicles and has declared the playa un-drivable.

According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, Black Rock radio reported that they expect to lose power and will stop broadcasting. Despite the rocky start, the weather is supposed to be dry for the remainder of the festival which stretches to September 1.

I just checked, and there is no major convention going on in Reno, and many of the Reno Hotels and Casinos are offering special rates to those hit by the weather delay. Rates and special codes can be found at Hope this helps people out.

So these folks come to live in the desert for a week and bring all manner of gear, supplies, equipment, etc — and they can’t go forward because of some rain?? I guess it’s hard to get the Man lit!

Why this carny folk feathers and leather swivel jaw orgy sand in your crotch event is being reported on on a jambands website, I have no idea.
