David Byrne was the special guest during last night’s Arcade Fire show Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Talking Heads frontman took the stage dressed as Dracula for the first song of the band’s encore, a cover of New York post-punk band Suicide’s “Dream Baby Dream.” The tune came after a fake band played a rendition of LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends” on a stage in the middle of the crowd (the same schtick featured a take on Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer” on the previous night). Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler kept the LCD Soundsystem vibe going during his band’s encore by tossing a few lines of “New York, I Love You but You’re Bringing Me Down” into “Normal Person.”

Byrne was an early Arcade Fire supporter and sat in with the group for a cover of Talking Heads’ “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” at New York’s Irving Plaza in 2005. He also brought the group out for a version of the song during his show at Hollywood, CA’s Hollywood Bowl later that year and provided backing vocals on the studio version of Arcade Fire’s song “Speaking in Tongues.”

Last night’s show also saw Arcade Fire take their show-closing “Wake Up” into the crowd, much like they did at several big events this year, including Jazz Fest. The group also worked a snippet of The Beatles’ “Helter Skelter” into “Rococo” during their set.

David Byrne was the third special guest with deep ties to New York’s punk rock/CBGB scene to join Arcade Fire during their three-night Brooklyn run. Friday night’s show featured a sit in from New York Dolls’ David Johansen (performing under his alias Buster Poindexter), who joined the group for “Hot Hot Hot,” while Saturday night saw Marky Ramone sit in with the band for “I Don’t Wanna Go Down To The Basement” and “I Wanna Be Sedated.”
