The Kinks will honor the 50th anniversary of their first singles with a series of archival releases via Legacy Recordings later this year. The first release, a two-disc retrospective titled The Essential Kinks, will feature liner notes written by the one-and-only David Bowie. The next reissue will be an expanded, remastered version of the band’s 1971 album Muswell Hillbillies, which includes nine bonbus tracks along with a DVD. There will also be a double LP vinyl issue for that release.

In addition to these reissues, Legacy Recordings recently made digital versions of 16 different Kinks albums available. That release included every Kinks studio album from Muswill Hillbillies to 1984’s Word of Mouth, as well as a few live albums, a compilation and Ray Davies’ 1985 solo album Return to Waterloo.

As previously reported, there had been a lot of talk about a Kinks reunion over the past couple of years, though nothing has been announced as of now.

The Essential Kinks will be available on October 14, while Muswill Hillbillies is set for release on November 10.
