Tommy Skeeter, the owner of the Sound City Studios, passed away yesterday, according to the Sound City Facebook page. He was 82.

Skeeter co-founded the legendary studio in 1969 with business partner Joe Gottfried. The Van Nuys, CA studio served as the birthplace for such albums as Nirvana’s Nevermind, Neil Young’s After the Goldrush and many more. Dave Grohl told the story of the studio in his 2013 documentary of the same name. The drummer also purchased the famed Neve 8028 console following the studio’s closing in 2011.

Rick Springfield, a partner in Sound City Studios and someone Skeeter managed during the 80s, took to Twitter to share his condolences as well.
