Pioneer, the Japanese-based electronics firm who controls ~60% of the global DJ market, has announced plans to sell off it’s Pioneer DJ business to US-based private equity firm KKR & Co LP. The spun-off business will retain the Pioneer DJ name, and allow Pioneer to focus on automotive-based electronics, as well as provide a much-needed infusion of capital for the DJ business. The news comes on the heels of Pioneer DJ’s introduction of their own analog turntable, widely heralded as a replacement for the now-discontinued Technics 1200 range of turntables. The company expects the transition to be seamless, and do not foresee any interruptions in the supply of Pioneer DJ products.
