Eagles fans got more than they bargained for when Madison Square Garden Executive Chairman Jim Dolan and his band JD & The Straight Show opened for the Eagles at MSG last night. Kazoos were distributed to ticket-holders as they entered the arena for the show in preparation for the group’s attempt to set a world record for largest kazoo performance. Later in the evening, JD & The Straight Shot were joined by New York Knicks stars Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire, Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and tennis legend John McEnroe for a kazoo “solo” during “Governor’s Song,” a tune from the band’s new album Where I’ve Been. That “solo” also featured the other 7,422 fans in attendance, resulting in a new world record.

The impetus for the kazoo challenge came last week, when Dolan participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge before challenging fans to help him break the kazoo record. After setting the record last night, Dolan announced that he would be donating $100,000 to ALS research.
