Jerry Douglas, Taj Mahal and Jaimoe sat in with Tedeschi Trucks Band last night during the first show of the band’s four-night stand at the Beacon Theatre in New York City (the group performs again tonight and then returns next Friday and Saturday). Douglas came out with his dobro for the evening’s second segment, which saw Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi take up acoustic guitars. The acoustic portion featured takes on “Idle Wind,” Lead Belly’s “On A Monday,” “These Walls, The Allman Brothers Band’s “Done Somebody Wrong” and Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” before Taj Mahal joined the group on harmonica for “Diving Duck Blues.” The two guests then stuck around for an electric take on Taj Mahal’s “Everybody’s Got to Change Sometime.”

Douglas and Taj Mahal were also joined by Allman Brothers Band drummer/percussionist Jaimoe when they returned for the night’s encore—“Leaving Trunk” and a show-closing rendition of Hambone Willie Newbern’s Delta blues classic “Rollin’ and Tumblin’.”

Tedeschi Trucks Band will return to the Beacon Theatre tonight before heading back to venue on Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27. You can check out Relix’s January/February cover story on the husband-and-wife led rock powerhouse here.
