A star-studded group of artists will join forces to celebrate the the life and work of Mavis Staples for I’ll Take You There – Celebrating 75 Years of Mavis Staples. The special concert and taping, which is set to take place on November 19 at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, and will see Staples take the stage with a number of performers, including Gregg Allman, Widespread Panic, Grace Potter, Patty Griffin, Eric Church, Tah Mahal, Aaron Neville, Buddy Miller, Michael McDonald, Ryan Bingham and Marty Stuart.
Don Was will serve as the event’s music director, leading an all-star backing band throughout the night, while Keith Wortman will serve as the show’s executive producer. Recent Was/Wortman collaborations have included tributes to Johnny Cash, Levon Helm and Gregg Allman.
Tickets for the tribute show will go “on sale”: this Monday, September 29 at 10 CST.
