Pearl Jam continued their fall tour last night with a stop in St. Louis at the Scottrade Center amidst an interesting time for the city. In Los Angeles, the St. Louis Cardinals were playing the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLDS and to make sure the crowd didn’t miss the game, the venue aired the game on projection screens in the venue and on TV’s throughout the arena.

The Cardinals mounted a late rally to take the lead shortly before the band was set to take the stage, prompting more of a watch party than a rock concert. Pearl Jam took the stage sometime during the eighth inning to start their show with the combination of “Pendulum” and “Low Light.” Frontman Eddie Vedder (a lifelong Cubs fan who admitted he was “rooting” for rival St. Louis tonight) updated the crowd periodically throughout the show, having the band improvise while he read off the score. The Cardinals won 10-9.

Along with the baseball theme throughout (Vedder also dedicated “Jeremy” to Brett Hull, executive vice president of the St. Louis Blues), Pearl Jam’s 34-song setlist also included a special moment to start the first encore as Eddie Vedder offered up a cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine.” Vedder recently released a take on the song to benefit Heartbeat.fm, an organization that uses music to foster peace between Israel and Palestine.

Pearl Jam’s fall tour continues on Sunday when they headline the first week of the Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, TX.
