STS9 have been mixing things up a good bit since embarking on their first full tour with new bassist Alana Rocklin’ earlier this month. Last night’s show in New York City was no different, as the band busted out the old school jam “Potamus” for the first time since their June 21, 2003 show at Colorado’s Mishawaka Amphitheater during the encore. The tune then segued into “Gobnugget” to close out the show.

Yesterday’s performance, which took place at the Best Buy Theatre in Times Square, also saw the group kick off their first set with acoustic (or in the parlance of STS9, “axed”) takes on “Native End” and “ReEmergence.” The band then did the same with a rendition of David Axelrod’s “The Human Abstract” at the beginning of their encore (the cover made its debut at Red Rocks last month). Additionally, fans were also given another treat when drummer Zach Velmer and percussionist Jeffree Lerner worked a wood box hand percussion jam into “Kamuy” before Rocklin launched into a funky bass solo.

STS9 will return to the road tonight when they head to the Tower Theater in Philadelphia.
