Foo Fighters celebrated the premiere of their new HBO series Sonic Highways with an intimate show at the Cubby Bear in Chicago on Friday night. During the two and a half hour set, the group was joined by two special guests including Cheap Trick’s Rick Neilsen, who appears in the first episode of the show (also based in Chicago), for takes on his own “Stiff Competition” and “Surrender” as well as the Foos’ new single “Something From Nothing.”

Neilsen and the band also performed “Stiff Competition” on Late Show with David Letterman earlier in the week as well as the new single, which Neilsen appears on.

The second special guest came in the form of Jeff Pezzati, who fronted Chicago-based punk group Naked Raygun. In the first episode of the show, Dave Grohl recounts a story of seeing his first concert at the Cubby Bear where Naked Raygun played. Pezzati joined the Foos on this night for a take on their original “Surf Combat.”
