Rashawn Ross took to Twitter yesterday to share a personal memento for the trumpet player as he revealed the last email he received from late DMB sax player LeRoi Moore. “Came across the last email I got from LeRoi. 3 AM on the phone laughing while going thru them all. Miss those moments,” Ross tweeted.

Moore famously recruited Ross to join the band full time in 2007, following multiple sit-ins throughout the 2005 and 2006 tours. The band revealed during the making of their album Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, their first without Moore, that the sax player envisioned the band having a full horn section. As Stefan Lessard told Ultimate Rock Guitar, “That was sort of an extension of LeRoi’s idea. It was where he was leading the band and the sound of what we were trying to do.”

Moore passed away in 2008 following complications from an ATV accident. Jeff Coffin of the Flecktones became the permanent replacement following his death.
