The Allman Brothers Band returned to the Beacon Theatre in top form last night for the penultimate show of their storied 45-year career. The band paid tribute to the memory of original guitarist Duane Allman, as longtime guitarists Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes took up all three of the legend’s axes over the course of the stellar show, and continued with the “Will The Circle Be Unbroken?” theme that has defined the run thus far.

The first set began with takes on “Done Somebody Wrong,” “Leave My Blues at Home,” “Worried Down with The Blues,” and covers of Willie Cobbs’ “You Don’t Love Me” and Wilson Pickett’s “I Found A Love.” “That’s What Love Will Make You Do” was then followed by the Gregg Allman-led classic “Midnight Rider” before the set came to a close with a “Black Hearted Woman” that included an “Other One” jam.

The Allman Brothers continued the tradition of working “Will The Circle Be Unbroken?” into each of their farewell shows when they slipped the gospel staple in the middle of “Les Brers In A Minor” early on in the set. Covers of Bob Dylan’s “Blind Willie McTell” and Albert King’s “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home” were then followed by fiery takes on the classic originals “Dreams” and “Whipping Post” to wrap up the set. The band then returned for a heartfelt “No One Left To Run With” encore to mark the show’s finale.

The Allman Brothers Band will return to the Beacon Theatre tonight for their final show. As previously reported, that performance will air on Sirius XM’s Classic Vinyl over the next couple of days.
