Widespread Panic kicked off their Halloween run in Broomfield, CO with their typical cover-heavy show featuring several debuts as well as bustouts. The first set would feature many of Panic’s originals including “Pigeons,” “Rebirtha” and others, however the group did debut a cover of Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold.”

Panic kicked off their second set with a debut cover of Cream’s “Strange Brew,” dedicated to Jack Bruce who passed away last week. After a “Greta,” the band invited out Steve Lopez on percussion for “Dirty Business,” their first since 2/17/2012 (150 shows) which gave way to a “The Other One” jam before moving into “Imitation Leather Shoes” with special guest Bill Bass on percussion. The next cover debut would come in the form of “Hit It And Quit It,” Funkadelic’s hit that has been previously covered by Umphrey’s McGee and more.

Led Zeppelin’s “D’yer Maker,” another debut, led into “Drums” and “Drums & Bass” before Panic got more familiar with such longtime covers as “Arleen” and “North.” The penultimate tune of the set played on a theme set by Duane Trucks and Sunny Ortiz’s costumes as the band performed Cheech & Chong’s “Earache My Eye.” Trucks was dressed as Chong while Ortiz took on the role of Cheech throughout the night. The biggest bustout of the night, “Sweet Leaf,” closed the set, Panic’s first since 10/27/2000. A three-song encore of “Wishbone,” “Action man” and “End of the Show” closed down Panic’s Halloween party.
