Umphrey’s McGee celebrated their 2000th show together at the Orpheum in Madison, WI, their second of two shows at the Midwest venue. The first set was highlighted by an opening “All in Time,” a cut from the band’s debut album, Greatest Hits Vol. III. Umphrey’s would pepper the set with bustouts, including a take on Bob Marley’s “Walk the Proud Land,” the first since 12/13/2002.

During the closing “August,” the band broke into “The Other Side of Things,” a tune played heavily between 1998-2000 but one that hasn’t appeared at a regular show since 2001 (it was played at the fan-voted Bill Graham show in 2012).

The second set featured the debut of “Where Is My Mind?” by the Pixies, marking the band’s 800th unique song played in their career. After a lengthy take on “Front Porch,” Kevin Sinclair joined the band for “1,000 Places to See Before You Die,” just the second time ever and first since 2007. Sinclair also lent his saxophone to the newer “Bad Friday” and reappeared during the encore for Miles Davis’ “It’s About That Time.”

The final bustout on the night came during “Slacker” when the band slipped into a snippet of “G-Song.” The song, much like “The Other Side of Things,” was in heavy rotation during the early days but fell out following the 2000 tour. “G-Song” last appeared in 2008.

Next up for Umphrey’s is show 2001 at the Bear Creek Music Festival later this month.
