The first authorized Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck will premiere nationally on HBO at a date to be announced later. Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, reportedly has no editorial control of the film. Director Brett Morgen told The Hollywood Reporter that he has worked closely with daughter Frances Bean Cobain.

“We agreed that because Courtney was a subject in the film, it would be best if she wasn’t given editorial control,” Morgen said. The director has also cleared rights with Cobain’s mother, Wendy, as well as Universal Music Group. Frances Bean is an executive producer on the film.

As for Love, Morgen says she “hasn’t seen the movie” and added, “I’m not sure she’s intending to.” Montage of Heck is due out in 2015. The film will be screened at Sundance in January before landing on HBO later in the year.
