Cameron Crowe, rock journalist and Oscar-winning writer/director of classic music film Almost Famous, will co-write and direct the pilot for a comedy television series about the road crew for a successful touring rock band. Showtime has ordered the pilot for the series, which is currently titled Roadies.

As of now, the ensemble will star Luke Wilson, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Imogen Poots, Peter Cambor and Rafe Spell. Crowe will share writing and directing duties with Winnie Holzman (who will serve as the series’ showrunner) while TV/movie extraordinaire J.J. Abrams has signed on to executive produce the program. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wilson will play Bill, and a road-weary tour manager who has been sober for five years, while the rest of the cast will play everyone from sound engineers, to guitar techs and financial advisers.
