Legendary jazz drummer Roy Haynes will celebrate his 90th birthday with a stretch of shows at New York’s Blue Note. The drummer, who has actively performed for 70 years, will appear at the club from March 13-15. Each night will feature two shows and a different special guest: bassist Christian Mcbride (3/13), trumpeter Roy Hargrove and tap dancer Savion Glover. Haynes’ band throughout the run will consist of Jaleel Shaw (saxophone), Martin Bejerano (piano) and David Wong (bass). Like most of the club’s performances, the sets will start at 8pm and 10:30pm each night.

Haynes has performed with the likes of Louis Armstrong, Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Thelonius Monk, Sarah Vaughn, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Getz, Chick Corea and Pat Metheny. More recently, he sat in with The Allman Brothers, recorded with Charlie Watts and shared the stage with Page McConnell at the 2008 Jammys.
