Phish returned to the stage in Miami for their second January 1 show ever as the band continued their New Year’s run at American Airlines Arena. Much like their show the previous night, the band didn’t stray too far from the script as most songs were offered up in a standard fashion.

The first set was highlighted by an early “David Bowie,” which fell in the third slot following an opening “Tube” and “Gumbo.” The rest of the set featured standard takes on “Lawn Boy,” “Undermind” and “Yarmouth Road,” among others. The newer “Wingsuit” once again featured an extended guitar solo from Anastasio before “Poor Heart” and a 12-minute “Bathtub Gin” closed the set.

No song in the second set eclipsed the 10-minute mark, however the band did explore some noteworthy themes in the cohesive set, particularly in the opening “Twist” and “Piper.” While “Prince Caspian” came at the expense of the budding “Piper” jam, the band followed it up with a patient, psychedelic “Twenty Years Later.” The tempo slowed with “Winterqueen” and “Wading in the Velvet Sea” before the band ramped it back up with “Run Like An Antelope.” While brief, the band closed the set with a take on “Rock and Roll” before a “Meatstick” encore brought the night to a close.

Phish returns to the American Airlines Arena tonight.
