Leftover Salmon celebrated the New Year and their 25th birthday with a show at The Vic Theatre in Chicago that featured guest appearances from Sam Bush, Col. Bruce Hampton and Keller Williams.

The show, which took place on December 31, opened with a fairly standard first set. However things picked up for the second set, which turned out to be a surprise 25th birthday party with previously unconfirmed guests Bush and Hampton. Bush sat in with the group for the entirety of the second set, with Hampton joining in for a take on Sun Ra’s “Space Is The Place.” Williams also took the stage for covers of the Grateful Dead’s “Franklin’s Tower,” Little Feat’s “Spanish Moon” (Little Feat keyboardist Bill Payne is now a full time member of LoS) and Steppenwolf’s “Born To Be Wild” before Hampton returned for the “Yield Not To Temptation” encore.

In addition to the show, LoS are also celebrating their 25th birthday with a fan forum. The new online space allows the band and their fans to share stories, photos and videos from the past quarter century.
