The Foo Fighters were joined by a number of hard rock icons during Dave Grohl’s 46th birthday show at The Forum in Los Angeles last night. Alice Cooper, David Lee Roth, Slash, Tenacious D, Perry Farrell, Paul Stanley of KISS, Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society, Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead and Nick Oliveri of Queens of the Stone Age all sat in with the band during the cover-filled concert, which also saw Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews take the stage for an extended jam. Additionally, the performance doubled as a benefit for the Rock School Scholarship Fund, MusiCares, and Sweet Relief.

Stanley was the first to appear when he took over for KISS’ “Detroit Rock City” and “Do You Love Me.” Jack Black then came out to lead the crowd through a “Happy Birthday” singalong before Tenacious D and Slash lent the Foos a hand on Queen’s “Tie Your Mother Down” and Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” Alice Cooper was up next for his own “School’s Out” and “I’m Eighteen” before Oliveri joined in for a take on Roky Erickson’s “Two Headed Dog.”

Wylde, a former guitarist with Ozzy Osbourne, made his contribution in the middle of the set when he took the stage for covers of Black Sabbath’s “N.I.B.” and “Fairies Wear Boots.” He was followed by Farrell, who showed off his vocal chops on Jane’s Addiction’s “Mountain Song” and The Rolling Stones’ “Miss You.” Trombone Shorty then sat in for a jammed out “This Is A Call,” just as he did at the Voodoo Music Festival in his hometown of New Orleans last year. The trombone virtuoso preceded Roth, who sang lead on covers of Van Halen’s “Panama” and “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘bout Love.” The show finally came to a close as Slash, Wylde and Kilmister helped the band with Chuck Berry’s “Let It Rock” for the finale.
