Relix will bring its 40th anniversary celebration to a close with a night of Grateful Dead music at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl on February 10. Billed as Brooklyn Is Dead, the evening will nod to the magazine’s roots as a Grateful Dead fanzine with a decidedly 21st century slant. Alex Bleeker & The Freaks will serve as the evening’s house band and a variety of special guests associated with the indie and jam communities will sit in throughout the night. Bleeker appeared on the cover of Relix’s June 2014 issue as a member of the indie-pop band Real Estate.

The magazine’s first issue was published in the fall of 1974, making Relix the second longest running music magazine in the country. A special 40th anniversary issue featuring interviews and essays with classic Relix acts such as the Grateful Dead, Phish, Wilco, My Morning Jacket, The Allman Brothers, Widespread Panic and Jefferson Airplane came out last spring and can be found here. In the months leading up to that special issue, Relix also revisited many of its core bands through cover stories on The Who, Phil Lesh, Warren Haynes, Jack Johnson, Widespread Panic, Kings Of Leon and Dave Matthews Band, among others.

Tickets will go on sale January 16 at 10 AM via the Brooklyn Bowl website.
