Things got pretty crazy on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show when the impersonator finally shared the stage with the impersonated. The moment came when host Jimmy Fallon took on his Neil Young persona for a rendition of the Harvest classic “Old Man,” only to be joined by the singer-songwriter extraordinaire himself for the second half of the tune.

The Neil Young and Jimmy-Fallon-as-Neil-Young duet wasn’t the night’s only big collaboration either. The legendary musician got some help from Tonight Show house band The Roots—as well as a choir and horn section—who helped him rock with “Who’s Gonna Stand Up?,” the politically-charged single from his latest album Storytone. In addition to the performances, Young also sat down with Fallon for the customary late-night interview.

In related news, Young, who is currently promoting his new high-quality digital audio service PONO, had a few words to say about the recent vinyl resurgence. In an interview with Southern California Public Radio’s The Frame, the singer-songwriter called the development “a fashion statement” and noted that, “a lot of people that buy vinyl today don’t realize that they’re listening to CD masters on vinyl, and that’s because the record companies have figured out that people want vinyl and they’re only making CD masters in digital, so all the new products that come out on vinyl are actually CDs on vinyl.” (According to Fact, most vinyl reissues are created using CD masters, though plenty of newer albums are mastered for vinyl release).

Young added that, “It’s a niche and it’s a great niche and it’s a wonderful thing and I hope people continue to enjoy vinyl and it continues to grow, because it’s a good thing.”
