Phil Lesh and Friends paid tribute to the year 1969 when they performed the setlist from the Grateful Dead’s February 22, 1969 show at the Dream Bowl in Vallejo, CA. The band—Lesh, Scott Law, Stu Allen, Jason Crosby, Cody Dickinson, Alex Koford and Ross James—kept things pretty close to the original setlist for most of the show, which took place at Terrapin Crossroads last night .

Phil and Friends’ encore, on the other hand, did not reference a particular show. After wrapping up the 2/22/69 setlist, the group returned for a cover of Jack Rhodes’ “Silver Threads and Golden Needles.” The tune was followed by a take on the Workingman’s Dead track “High Time” that segued into an extremely rare rendition of “The Seven” (the tune is a variation on “The Eleven” that, according to Deadbase, was only played by the Grateful Dead twice—once in 1969 and once in 1970). The show then wrapped with “Mystery Train,” another super-rare Junior Parker cover that, according to Deadbase, was only played the Grateful Dead once, during their 11/8/70 show at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY (though the Jerry Garcia Band played the tune on a number of occasions).

Phil Lesh and Friends will continue their 50th anniversary celebration at Terrapin Crossroads tonight when they pay tribute to the year 1970.
