That National have posted some updates on the recording of their long-awaited Grateful Dead tribute album to Instagram. The project, which will be released as a charity compilation for Red Hot, is set to feature a variety of artists from the indie world.

The Instagram posts show members the band and a few other musicians—including Will Oldham, Yellowbirds/Apollo Sunsine’s Sam Cohen, Sam Amidon, Yo La Tengo’s Ira Kaplan, The Tallest Man on Earth, Taka Taka’s Conrad Doucette and The Walkmen’s Walt Martin—at what appears to be Dreamland Studios in the Hudson Valley. Many of the images feature Grateful Dead related captions, such as “I’ll show you snow & rain” and “Breakdown Street.”

Additionally, Cohen posted a photo of himself and a number of the aforementioned artists, along with a caption that reads, “Had the extreme pleasure of spending last week in the studio with The National,#joshkaufman, Will Oldham, Sam Amidon, The Tallest Man On Earth, Conrad Doucette, Walt Martin, and Ira Kaplan, recording Grateful Dead covers for the upcoming Red Hot charity release. Such special and incredibly talented people. It’s going to be a super cool record.”

“We’ve done a lot of work talking to various artists and laying the groundwork,” Aaron Dessner told Relix and Jambands.com in 2013. “It is kind of an ambitious project both because of the legacy and the material. We are obsessed enough with the Grateful Dead that it is kind of a monumental idea.”

At the time, the guitarist also said the album will hone in on a few all-star ensembles assembled for the project as well as select featured guests. “How do you even skirt the surface of it?,” Dessner asked rhetorically. “We are about to dive in in a major way. We listen to the Grateful Dead a lot on tour, mainly because Scott [Devendorf] is the DJ on the bus, and he is obsessed.”

There is currently no word on when the Grateful Dead tribute compilation will be available, though the project has been in the works for a few years. Members of Vampire Weekend, Bon Iver, The War On Drugs and Real Estate are also expected to be a part of the release.
