As the Sco-Mule tour turned South to Durham’s Performing Arts Center, the ensemble got some help from an old friend last night as Branford Marsalis sat in sporadically throughout the show.

Marsalis would appear to start the second set with Mule and Scofield for a take on “The Shape I’m In” which led into “Low Spark” and “Dreams.” Mule would finish the rest of the set by themselves, working in cuts like “Mule,” “Soulshine” and “Tupelo Honey.” In the encore, Scofield, Marsalis and Joey Calderazzo, a longtime collaborator with Branford, joined in with Mule to close the show with “Afro-Blue.”

Next up for Sco-Mule is a show at the famed Ryman Auditorium tomorrow night in Nashville, TN.
