Former member of Frank Zappa’s touring band Mike Keneally joined Umphrey’s McGee last night as the band kicked off their west coast run at the House of Blues in San Diego. The guitarist jumped on for the end of the second set which featured the band’s own “Wappy Sprayberry” and the finale of The Rolling Stones’ “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking.”

Keneally has previously joined the band at the same venue during their show in February 2008. He added keys to “Sweetness” and then returned to play guitar later in the show on “Ringo.” Keneally was a member of Frank Zappa’s touring band for a brief period in 1988 and also played with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and others.

Next up for Umphrey’s is a show at The Wiltern in Los Angeles tonight. The show will be webcast via TourGigs.
