Matisyahu celebrated the 10th anniversary of his breakthrough album Live at Stubb’s with two special, stripped down shows last week. On Wednesday, Matis performed at New York’s City Winery with a unique band that included his longtime guitarist Aaron Dugan, keyboardist Rob Marscher and drummer Tim Keiper, who attended the New School with Matisyahu and Dugan.

The original Live at Stubb’s was recorded on February 19, 2005 and produced a sequel, Live at Stubb’s II, which came out in February of 2011 (Wednesday night’s show was dubbed Live at Stubb’s III).

As a nod to the album’s anniversary, Matis played “L-rd Raise Me” and “Close My Eyes” from the album. The show took place on the Jewish holiday of Purim and Matis celebrated by offering free tickets to anyone who brought over 100 hamantashen (the traditional holiday pastry to the show). He also documented his reading of the holiday’s traditional story, the Megillah, backstage before the show on Twitter.

On Saturday Matis returned to Stubb’s for a second anniversary performance. This time he performed a stripped down set—seated on a stool—in the venue’s indoor space.
