Gregg Allman and The Doobie Brothers will co-headline a handful of dates this summer. The tour will focus on the East Coast and include a mix of amphitheater, park and casino dates. Since this is Allman’s first summer tour since The Allman Brothers Band retired, the co-headlining run will allow the singer/organist to play select sheds, mostly in the Northeast.

As of press time, the tour will kick off in Boston on August 19 and come to a close in Saratoga Springs, NY on September 4.
The Allman Brothers Band and The Doobie Brothers co-headlined a similar run in 2009.

“We’ve played shows with Gregg and The Allman Brothers over the years, starting in 1974,“ The Doobie Brothers’ Tom Johnston said in a statement.” It’s always been something I’ve looked forward to and enjoyed for the high energy and soulful experience that it is.”

Patrick Simmons added, “Gregg Allman is a national treasure, and it’s such a pleasure to be doing shows with one of our oldest friends. Not only is Gregg one of the finest musicians you could ever hope to hear, he is also one of the nicest people I know. His music, as well as ours, was born out of that great blues tradition, so I think this show is going to be a treat for you blues freaks! We’re so looking forward to these gigs, and I know there’s bound to be some jammin’ going on at some point.”

“I’ve loved The Doobie Brothers since I can remember,” says Gregg Allman said in a statement of his own. “Those guys can play! And I love their songs—so many classics. I’m honored to tour with my old pals. We always have a good ol’ time.”

Allman’s current solo outfit includes ABB percussionist Marc Quinones as well as guitarist Scott Sharrard, recent Blind Boys keyboardist Peter Levin, Booker T. & the M.G.‘s drummer Steve Potts and longtime Tiny Universe bassist Ron Johnson. They also tour with a horn section consisting of Jay Collins,
Art Edmaiston and Marc Franklin. Allman will perform at Kalamazoo, Michigan’s State Theatre this evening.
