Seattle organizers announced on Thursday that the city is one step closer to completing Jimi Hendrix Park, located in Seattle’s Central District. EERG, Inc. will helm the project to build the 2.5-acre park and construction is scheduled to begin in April with phase one of the project, appropriately titled “Little Wing,” to open this fall.

Since 2012, non-profit groups named in Hendrix’s honor have raised more than $1.4 million to finance the park, according to Billboard. Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s sister, helms the Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation and said, “It is our hope that for generations, [the park] will exist as more than an attraction or point of interest, but as a place of homage to one of Seattle’s own.”

Among the amenities in the park include a timeline of Hendrix’s life and career, a central plaza for performances and more. Phase two will add a “shadow wave wall” depicting silhouette images of the guitarist. That phase is currently in the fundraising stage.
