STS9 came to the Georgia Theater in Athens, GA and brought with them their knack for debuting new covers as the group dug into the catalogs of Chic and Deee-Lite over the course of the night. To start, the band worked in Chic’s “Good Times” into their own “Four Year Puma” with help from Nashville-area singer Maureen Murphy.

Later on in the show during the second-set opening “Kamuy,” the band welcomed out Murphy again for a take on Deee-Lite’s “Groove is in the Heart.” She would also return later on in the set for the set-closing “Click Lang Echo” as she recorded the samples that are typically used during the live performances. Last night, the vocalist sang those samples live.

The bustout of the night came to start the encore as the group once again brought out Murphy for “Better Day,” the first since 4/16/2005 and the first version ever with a vocalist. Fittingly enough, “Better Day” segued into the same tune that follows it on Artifact, “By the Morning Sun,” which closed the show.

Next up for STS9 is their third and final show in Athens tonight at the Georgia Theater.
