Willie Nelson is gearing up to launch a chain of marijuana stores. The brand, which will be called Willie’s Reserve, plans to roll out in states where the long-prohibited plant is now legal.

The news comes today via a Daily Beast interview with Michael Bowman, a veteran marijuana and renewable energy lobbyist who is serving as a spokesperson for the business. Bowman explained the idea behind Willie’s Reserve, saying:

Well, you know, Willie has spent a lifetime in support of cannabis, both the industrial hemp side and the marijuana side. He wants it to be something that’s reflective of his passion. Ultimately, it’s his. But it was developed by his family, and their focus on environmental and social issues, and in particular this crazy war on drugs, and trying to be a bright light amongst this trail as we’re trying to extract ourselves from the goo of prohibition.

Really he wants it, at the end of the day, to envelop what his personal morals and convictions are. So from the store itself to how they’ll work with suppliers and how things are operated, it’s going to be very reflective of Willie’s life.

According to Bowman, Willie’s Reserve plans to open its first store in the next calendar year. He also noted that the stores will sell their own branded marijuana, as well as marijuana from other growers. However, the growers that they do business with will have to meet certain quality standards, including maintaining a reasonable carbon footprint.

Nelson is not the first musician to have his name added to a marijuana brand. Last year, Bob Marley’s family announced their plans to launch Marley Natural, a new marijuana brand that will utilize the reggae legend’s likeness.
