Building off the success of the Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, a new band will make their debut at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl this January. The project, which is dubbed Almost Rad, will offer their interpretation of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead’s covers of songs that the Grateful Dead cover. Much like Almost Dead—which features Furthur drummer Joe Russo and number of other noted touring musicians—Almost Rad will draw in several Philzone.org message board favorites, including Furthur’s John K and former Melvin Seals & JGB mainstay Stu Allen on guitar.

The band’s setlist is expected to mix chestnuts like Almost Dead’s cover of the Grateful Dead’s cover of Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece” with rarities like Almost Dead’s cover of the Dead’s cover of Johnny Cash’s “Big River.” The band’s first 18 performances will be part of the popular Brooklyn Bowl event the NYC-Freaks Ball and tickets will be exclusively delivered via drone bots. The Kidz, a Billy & The Kids cover band, will open, the first 9 nights of the run while The Expats, a new supergroup comprised of Jeff Austin, Murph, Nigel Hall and Todd Nance, will open the remaining shows.
