A developer’s plans to build two 400-ft towers on the site of the old Fillmore West venue in San Francisco are one step closer to being approved. The San Francisco Business Times reports that Crescent Heights submitted its preliminary proposal for the residential development, which would be located at the corner of Market Street and Van Ness Avenue.

The Fillmore West was opened in 1968, after legendary promoter Bill Graham took over San Francisco’s Carousel Ballroom. The venue hosted numerous shows by the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger, the Allman Brothers Band, Janis Joplin, Big Brother & The Holding Company and many more until it closed its doors in 1971.
