Gov’t Mule got some help from a few friends as they kicked off their spring tour at the Major Rager in Augusta, GA last night. The show—which celebrated the beginning the Masters golf tournament—featured a surprise appearance by James Brown emcee Danny Ray, who introduced the band before their rendition of Brown’s “Doin’ It To Death.” The song also featured sit ins from Eric Bloom, Ryan Zoidis, Craig Sorrels and Neal Evans, who all stuck around for the cover of Brown’s “It’s A Man’s World” that followed. Sorrels also joined the band later in the set for “Mule” before returning for an encore take on “Soulshine” that was sandwiched around a “Tupelo Honey.”

Gov’t Mule will continue their tour tonight when they head to Pocahontas Live in Chesterfield, VA.
