R&B singer Percy Sledge has passed away at the age of the 73. The legendary crooner, who rose to fame with the classic 1966 soul ballad “When a Man Loves a Woman,” died this morning in Baton Rouge, LA. His cause of death has not been revealed at this time.

Sledge was working as a hospital orderly in Sheffield, AL in the early 1960s, when he was discovered by record producer Quin Ivy. His first song, “When a Man Loves a Woman,” became an international hit, launching a touring and recording career that would last until the 1990s.
