JerryGarcia.com has been nominated for a Webby People’s Voice Award in the music category, and you can help ensure sure that it wins one. While the Webby Awards themselves are awarded by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, the Webby People’s Voice Awards are selected by the voting public.

In order cast your vote, all you need to do is sign up via the Webby Awards website. You can make a selection in every category, or you can cut to the chase by searching for “music.” The voting process closes on April 23, and the winners will be announced on April 27.

JerryGarcia.com began as passion project for the digital experience design agency Critical Mass. After noticing that Garcia’s digital presence paled in comparison to his legacy, the agency—which consists of fans of Garcia and his music—reached out to his estate in early 2012 to find out how they could help. After discussing the matter with Garcia’s family, Critical Mass set out to create the gorgeous and comprehensive site that exists today.

Jerry’s daughter Trixie Garcia shared some of her thoughts on the new website with us, saying:

One day I realized that I could do something about the way Jerry’s legacy was being managed, or not managed. After being told that there wasn’t enough money in it to do things like create a new Jerry website, put songs online for download or get involved with social media, we realized that it was time for a change. With that I set out to get into one of those 360 contracts,, get someone to build Jerry a site and get with the 21st century. My dad was a huge science fiction fan. This is somewhere he can, and should thrive!

It started with an email from David Gans, who had been randomly contacted by a web designer named Mark Silverman out of Chicago that shared my disappointment with Jerry’s web presence, a static page with two links that were dead ends and a portal to dead.net. I was just fed up and foolish enough to trust this guy Mark, and I am so glad I did.

Sometimes everything falls into place, and that is how it has been working with my Dad’s legacy.

We wanted a website that worked equally well for the new fan and the Grateful Dead scholar.

One very special moment in this process was gaining the trust of Ryan Shriver, who devotedly created and ran thejerrysite.com for many years. His database was the best thing out there, and I will be inviting him to the Webbys if we win!
