The Disco Biscuits were joined by Grateful Dead drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, as well as Brothers Past/Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist Tom Hamilton, for their Grateful Dead tribute show at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO last night. The show, which marked the third night of their Bisco Inferno run, saw the Rhythm Devils take the stage for a second set of Dead tunes, though the band also worked a few GD covers into other parts of their show.
The night began with a four-song opening set of Disco Biscuits originals, including “M.E.M.P.H.I.S.,” “Basis for a Day,” “Caves of the East” and “Spraypaint.” The cold rain and snow was literally coming down as Kreutzmann, Hart and Hamilton made their triumphant appearance for set two, which got going with “Jack Straw.” Next came a “Crazy Fingers” that segued into “New Speedway Boogie” before the band launched into a “Terrapin Station” that moved into “Space” before morphing into “Wharf Rat.” Finally, the set closed out with a classic “Help On The Way”/“Slipknot/“Franklin’s Tower” combo.
The Disco Biscuits returned for their third an final set, which began with a cover of Walter Murphy’s “Fifth of Beethoven” that transitioned into the Conspirator track “Orch Theme.” The tune then moved into the final part of “Magellan”—which completed the unfinished version from the previous night—before landing on the Grateful Dead’s “I Know You Rider.” The set then ended with the Dead’s “Casey Jones,” and the band encored with yet another Grateful Dead classic, “Going Down The Road Feeling Bad.”
The Disco Biscuits will wrap up their Bisco Inferno run tonight with a sold out show at the Ogden Theatre in Denver.
