In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the members of My Morning Jacket discussed a variety of topics including their new album The Waterfall, due out May 4. The band also dished on performing with Bob Weir initially during the Americanarama tour which led to several other collaborations.

On the tour, the band says they were disappointed in the lack of collaboration with Bob Dylan. “It was pitched to us like, ‘There are gonna be lots of collaborations, and Bob wants to play with you guys,‘ ” says guitarist Carl Broemel. “That didn’t happen.” Ultimately, Weir joined in during the first few dates and sat in with My Morning Jacket on covers of the Grateful Dead’s “I Know You Rider,” as well as “Brown-Eyed Woman,” The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence” and more.

“He was so open to talking, the kind of things we were hoping Dylan would be,” Jim James said of Weir. “Having him there was like this great gift.” Weir also added, “I had a lot of fun playing with those guys. They’re a very, very good band.”

The Louisville rockers also chimed in on being called a “jamband.” As keyboardist Bo Koster said, “We’ve developed this connection where someone will do something and four heads will turn and start to play it with you. But it’s frustrating when people call us a ‘jam band’ — there’s none of that noodling.”
