Last week, Ryan Adams surprised everyone at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville when he covered Bryan Adams’ hit “Summer of ’69.” The cover was significant in that it sured up an incident that happened in 2002 at the same venue, when Adams allegedly kicked someone out of his show for requesting the song. Now, Bryan Adams has responded to the cover.

Speaking to the San Francisco Chronicle (via SFGate), Bryan Adams said he heard the cover. “Ryan wrote to me to tell me the day before that he was going to do it,” Adams says. “I think it was some sort of cathartic release for him to return to that venue and play that song, as you probably know the story there. So I think in some ways, he has been haunted by the song somewhat, which is a shame because it’s a really great song.” Adams added, “I’m happy he did it. He’s a great artist and sure I’d sing one of his songs, I’m not sure which one though.”

Ryan Adams also took to Twitter last night to add to the comments.
