Ryan Adams returned to the Carolinas for his first show in either state since 2009. The Jacksonville, NC native traveled south to the North Charleston Performing Arts Center and delivered one of the finest shows of the tour thus far.

Highlights included five songs off of Adams’ 2000 solo debut Heartbreaker such as “To Be Young (Is to Be Sad, Is to Be High)” played for the first time live in a full band setting since 2007. The following performance of “The End” was dedicated to Adams’ father, who was in attendance last night.

After takes on Oasis’ “Wonderwall,” the newer “Kim,” “I Love You But I Don’t Know What to Say” and “Trouble,” opener Jenny Lewis came out on the appropriate “Oh My Sweet Carolina,” which appeased the home crowd. Adams would also work in a cover of Natalie Prass’ “My Baby Don’t Understand Me.”

The final highlight of the night came towards the end of the set when Adams and his band busted out another Heartbreaker cut in “Shakedown on 9th Street,” played full band for the first time since 2009.

Next up for Adams is a show at The Fillmore Miami Beach tomorrow night.
