Umphrey’s McGee’s highly anticipated God Boner set with special guest Gene Ween took place last night at Summer Camp as the co-headliners hit the stage for three sets yesterday in Chillicothe, IL.
Gene Ween came out during the second set following a pair of Umphrey’s tunes in “Puppet String” and “JaJunk.” The ensemble then reeled off a series of Ween tunes including “The Grobe,” “Japanese Cowboy” and “Baby Bitch,” which Brendan Bayliss recently performed at a solo show. In all, seven of the songs played were Umphrey’s debuts, with “Freedom of ’76” being played most recently at a 2012 show. The ensemble also mixed in a cover of Billy Joel’s “The Stranger,” which Freeman has been performing during his own Billy Joel tribute shows.
Additional highlights from Umphrey’s three sets included “Remind Me,” which made its return after debuting in the Raw Stewage quarter at UMBowl. Another past Raw Stewage cut, “Upward,” also found a home in between segments of “Phil’s Farm” in the third set.
Umphrey’s returns to the stage tonight in Chillicothe.
