Jack White entered the members-only Third Man Records Vault chat room yesterday to answer some questions. While the full Q&A is available if you’re a member of a TMR Vault, Consequence of Sound compiled some highlights.

Those of interest include White discussing former White Stripes bandmate Meg White. When asked if he’s talked to the drummer lately, White said, “She doesn’t answer her phone.” He added that he wouldn’t consider playing with her again saying, “That time is gone.”

White also dished on his intense touring schedule around his sophomore solo effort Lazaretto. “I’d say half the shows I play I’d rather not play,” White said. “Festivals for example. But I have to make the best of it and try to get inspired.”

He continued, “It’s hard when the people who organize festivals basically control my life. I have to book shows around their offer that I can’t refuse. It’s very expensive to tour. People think that’s how musicians make their money these days sadly, but it’s hard to on the road no matter what size you are. Only seated theaters for acoustic shows for the rest of my days.”

As he has on stage ever since a revealing spread in Rolling Stone, White also took aim at the media, saying, “Everyone always plays ‘catch the hypocrite’ with me. Probably because I often make the stupid mistake of having opinions and saying them out loud. It’s smarter for well known people to smile and keep their mouth shut.”

When a chat room member asked White to reveal something people might not know about you, he responded, “That I don’t belong here. And most of the time it’s torture trying to find reasons to stay.”
