Original Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin will rejoin the band for their tour with Marilyn Manson. Chamberlin, who hasn’t played with the group since 2009, will helm the kit on the band’s The End Times Tour which kicks off July 7 in Concord, CA.

“You can’t just grab somebody and say, ‘Play drums on this Smashing Pumpkins song,’” Corgan told USA Today. “Jimmy’s drum parts are so incredibly technical and nuanced that it’s a very rare class of people that can step in and play.”

On joining back up with the group, Chamberlin said, “It’s a great opportunity not only to celebrate the music, but to celebrate the friendship and the legacy.”

The last taste of Chamberlin on Smashing Pumpkins music that we have was a sit-in with Umphrey’s McGee during the band’s Chicago run (Chamberlin runs a tech company in Chicago called LiveOne) where he replaced Kris Myers on “Cherub Rock.”
